The meteorologists issued an amber heat watch for Friday. The regions covered by the watch are the west, south and east – the counties of Bihor, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj, Valcea, Dolj, Olt, Arges, Teleorman, Dambovita, Giurgiu, Prahova, Ilfov, Buzau, Ialomita, Calarasi, Constanta, Tulcea, Braila, Galati, Vrancea, Vaslui, Bacau, Iasi, Neamt, Botosani and Suceava. According to the National Meteorology Administration (ANM), the wave of heat will intensify on Friday, the thermal discomfort will continue to be especially accentuated and the temperature humidity index will reach and even exceed the critical 80 value on extensive areas. Maximum daytime temperatures will frequently rise above 35-37 degrees, peaking at 38 degrees in selected plain areas in the southern and eastern parts of Romania. Also on Friday, the rest of the country will be under a yellow heat warning. ANM also issued an amber heat watch valid from Friday, 18:00 until Saturday 18:00, for 14 counties in the south and south-eastern Romania, more specifically Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Ilfov (including Bucharest), Calarasi, Ialomita, Constanta, Braila, Galati, Tulcea and parts of Dambovita, Prahova and Buzau.The amber heat-health watch is not the only bad news these days. According to the Ministry of Health (MS), over 6,000 calls have been received by the ambulance services and SMURD nationwide in the last 24 hours, 169 cases being people collapsed in the street, who had to be transported to hospital for medical care.
