Sorin Ovidiu Vintu, sentenced to one year in prison

Businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu was sentenced by the Bucharest Court of Appeal (CAB) to one year in prison, without the possibility of probation, for blackmailing Sebastian Ghita, Romania TV informs. The verdict is final and there is no possibility of probation. Co-defendant Ioan Ilie Cezar was sentenced to 5 months, no probation – the same verdict pronounced by the first court.Vintu said yesterday on Realitatea TV that he will not challenge the decision, which he was expecting and considers as “an insult to the act of justice and to common sense.” “It only legalised the attempted theft committed by Ghita, with support from General Prosecutor Kovesi, instigated by Traian Basescu. It’s a fact. I am sorry to see that judges were accomplices,” he added. After serving his sentence, Vintu will sue in court “all these rascals” that committed these abuses – George Maior, Florian Coldea, Laura Codruta Kovesi, Marius Iacob and Traian Basescu – Vintu said. “They tried as much as they could, and apparently succeeded, to incapacitate my fighting power. When I’ll be outside, I will obviously have more power to fight than when arrested,” Vintu mentioned.
