The Bucharest Court of Appeals canceled yesterday the Romanian Football Federation’s (FRF) decision to disaffiliate Universitatea Craiova, Agerpres informs. The sentence is final. After the FRF’s Executive Committee decided on July 20 last year to disaffiliate U Craiova, club owner Adrian Mititelu filed a complaint against the decision. Moreover, U Craiova is asking for EUR 50 M in damages from FRF, as a consequence of the fact that the FRF decision resulted in 39 U Craiova players becoming free of contract and being taken over by other clubs for free.Pursuant to the complaint filed by U Craiova officials, the National Anticorruption Office (DNA) discovered several inconsistencies in the FRF decision. Thus, in DNA’s opinion, Craiova’s disaffiliation was made by invoking serious violations of the FRF Statute, but no details were given as to what the violations and their seriousness consisted of. “By seriously and knowingly violating their prerogatives and duties, the FRF and LPF representatives caused a damage of over EUR 1 M to U Craiova, obtaining patrimonial advantages for themselves or for others. Invoking pressures made by international football bodies is a simple subterfuge in order to attenuate the illegal actions,” a DNA report reads,.
