Last theatrical and opera shows of the summer

The Metropolis Theatre prepares this week for two new shows. The first – ‘The Jubilee’ by Jean-Marie Chevret and Michele Ressi – is directed by Radu Beligan and features actresses Maia Morgenstern and Victoria Ducu. The play, which lasts one hour and 20 minutes, is scheduled for today, June 26 and tomorrow, June 27, starting 7.00 PM. A ticket costs RON 21.60.The second show prepared by the Metropolis Theatre of Bucharest is ‘The hornets’ nest’ by Alexandru Kiritescu, directed by Dan Tudor, with many stars of the Bucharest National Theatre in the cast. The show will run each evening between June 29 and July 4, starting from 7.00 PM. The cast includes Florina Cercel, Rodica Popescu Bitanescu, Ileana Stana Ionescu, Olga Delia Mateescu, Marius Bodochi, Razvan Oprea, Ilinca Goia, Monica Davidescu, Ana Ioana Macaria etc. A ticket costs RON 32.40.Verdi’s ‘Un ballo in maschera’ by Verdi, at the ONBThe National Opera of Bucharest (ONB) will end its current season with the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Un ballo in maschera,’ in two performances scheduled for June 30 and July 1.The opera will be directed by Bulgarian master Plamen Kartalov. “We decided to give a symbolic interpretation of the time and space of the action. The character, names of heroes and intensity of the music are unrelated to spaces like Sweden, America or Italy, so they can be placed anytime, in any epoch. Thus, if we forced a historical <<framework>> upon the story, no matter what this was, we would have limited its symbolic value,” Plamen Kartalov explained.
