Former TV showman Serban Huidu, charged with manslaughter after he caused last October a road accident with three fatalities, was sentenced Friday by the Brasov Tribunal to 2 years and a half in prison, but the court released him on probation. Magistrates also ordered Huidu to pay court expenses worth RON 300 and decided that he will be returned the SUV involved in the crash near Timisul de Sus (Brasov County). The son and wife of victim Stefan Balogh declared themselves revolted by the verdict, saying that Huidu should have received the maximum possible sentence. They will appeal against the verdict, they said. “This is a revolting sentence. I consider that he should have been arrested since October 16, at noon, given the way he executed this murder that was no accident. I believe that he enjoyed protection, meaning that he may kill anyone on the road, without answering for his crime,” Elena Balogh stated. Previously, the court had ruled to disjoin the criminal and civil lawsuits, so the civil lawsuit in which the victims’ families claim over EUR 800,000 will be tried on September 20. According to the conclusions of technical analyses, when he hit the other vehicle Huidu was driving with 87 km/h, on a road with a speed limit of 50 km/h.
