The management of the mining company ‘Societatea Nationala a Lignitului Oltenia’ (SNLO) made several “undue” expenses between 2009-2011, such as RON 8.8 M sponsorships granted to football teams, thus causing “significant” losses to the state budget and SNLO’s own budget. “The results unveiled a series of irregularities that caused a significant loss to the budget of the company and to the state budget. The facts have been revealed by the Court of Audits report,” reads a press release issued by the Ministry of Economy, the shareholder of SNLO. The list of irregularities revealed by the audit includes sponsorships worth RON 8.8 M granted to football clubs Pandurii Targu-Jiu and Minerul Motru in 2011, despite the fact that the budget of the company did not provide such expenses. SNLO also registered a RON 700,000 increase of operational expenses, representing the restoration and upgrade of buildings operated by some branches. The audit also found out that SNLO made last year “undue expenses” worth RON 220,000, under the form of premiums for the renegotiation of the labour contract and payments for taking some employees from home to job and back.
