Romania expects EU justice monitoring to stay in place

Romanian Justice Minister Titus Corlatean yesterday said that Romania expects the European Commission (EC), which expressed its “Concern” over the recent developments in this country, to keep monitoring the justice system and corruption crackdown in Romania Mediafax quoted the AFP as reporting.In the second half of July, Brussels is due to publish a crucial evaluation report over the progress made by Romania and Bulgaria with respect to justice reform and the fight against corruption, five years after the two countries joined the European Union (EU). The Commission has expressed since last week its “concern” over the actions of the ruling center-left coalition, the Social Liberal Union (USL), part of a process that led to the impeachment of the center-right president Traian Basescu.
