The number of used cars registered for the first time in Romania advanced by 66 pc in the first half of the year, to 73,729 units, from 44,444 units in H1 2011. The number of cars being re-registered in Romania dropped by 18 pc, to 162,687 units, from 198,084 in 2011, according to sources with the Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Department, quoted by Auto.ro. Volkswagen leads the second hand auto market, with 17,414 cars registered in the first half of the year, representing a 68 pc increase against the similar interval of 2011. Second comes Opel, with 15,307 units, followed by Ford with 9,453 units. The top three brands cumulate more than half of the total sales of used cars. The 4th and 5th places are respectively held by Audi (4,375 units) and BMW (3,893). In June 2012, 13,177 automobiles were registered for the first time in Romania, much above the 4,505 units registered into circulation in June 2011. Per total H1, 107,072 new and used cars were registered in Romania, 40 pc more than a year ago (76,202). The number of new cars advanced by 5 pc, to 33,343 units during the interval. Dacia is in pole position, with over 8,370 units, which accounts for a 3 pc decline from last year, followed by Volkswagen with 3,783 units and Skoda with 3,248 vehicles. Next come Ford (2,563) and Renault (2,374), according to data released by DRPCIV. The average price paid for a second-hand automobile in Romania increased by 5 pc in H1 this year, to EUR 5,220, compared to the similar interval of 2011, AutoIndex reports.
