Forensic Institute confirms Nastase’s suicide attempt

Ex-Social Dem Prime Minister Adrian Nastase was questioned at Rahova Prison on Monday about his attempted suicide on the night of June 20, when the Police went to his address to execute his incarceration warrant. ‘In the course of the follow-up investigation into the case involving the incident occurring on the night of June 20, 2012, referring to Adrian Nastase’s suicide attempt, we state that, on Monday, July 16, the prosecutor visited him at his place of detention. The questioning of Nastase Adrian by the prosecutor commenced at 10:00. He agreed to disclose aspects related to the circumstances in which his suicide attempt had taken place’, the Public Information and Press Office of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice informed yesterday. No hearings of members of the Nastase family are scheduled in the next days. The prosecutors also informed yesterday that the conclusions of the forensic medical report had been communicated by the Mina Minovici National Forensic Medicine (IML) on Friday. According to national media, IML corroborates the attempted suicide. In the context it needs to be reminded that, on June 20, Adrian Nastase was handed down a definitive sentence of two years of imprisonment in the ‘Quality Trophy’ case, by the High Court of Cassation and Justice. The charged had been in relation with a fundraising during his 2004 election campaign when he stood for election as president of Romania on behalf of PSD.
