Over half of Romanians will vote on Sunday

More than 50 per cent of the Romanians plan to participate this Sunday in the referendum, based on an opinion poll conducted by Operations Research, upon the request of Realitatea TV, during July 23 – 25. This opinion survey indicates also that an overwhelming share of Romanians are (70 percent) likely to vote for the dismissal of President Traian Basescu. Thus, the referendum of July 29 is likely to be validated in terms of attendance. Out of the 1,000 persons inquired, more than 70 per cent said that they would vote for the dismissal of the suspended President, whereas 23 per cent affirm that they vote against his dismissal.In the rural areas, people show a high interest in participating in the referendum. More than 53 per cent of the voters in the villages pledge to vote, whereas this percentage is close to 52 per cent in cities. Some 60 per cent of the persons over 60 years have stated their voting intention. In case of young persons aged between 18 and 28, the share of those planning to vote is lower, 42.40 per cent of them saying they plan to participate in the referendum.
