Timisoara-Lugoj motorway put off due to drought

The Timisoara-Lugoj motorway stretch, lot 1 (9.5 km), would only be completed after August 15-20, said officials of Spedition UMB, one of the motorway section‘s constructors, along with Italy’s Carena, according to zf.ro. Spedition UMB, a company owned by businessman Dorinel Umbrarescu, had announced three weeks ago that the Timisoara-Lugoj segment could be ready by late July, yet, drought appears to prevent it from happening, as high temperatures (over 35C de grade Celsius) could speed up concrete solidification, experts say.On June 1, 40 per cent of the Timisoara-Lugoj stretch was ready, according to the National Company for Motorways and National Roads in Romania (CNADNR), with the completion deadline likely to be pushed forward than the original target of April 2013, given its relatively small length. By June 1, the CNADNR had paid circa EUR 15.6 M of the nearly EUR 48.9 M contract.
