Ambassador Gitenstein met Ponta and Rus

The US Ambassador in Bucharest, Mark Gitenstein yesterday met PM Victor Ponta at the Victoria Palace. Official sources confirmed the news for Mediafax, adding that the meeting ranges in the series of periodic talks ambassadors have with Romanian officials. The previous day, the American ambassador had met the minister of Interior Ioan Rus, right after the latter announced his resignation. The US Embassy told the ‘Gandul’ newspaper that Gitenstein often meets Romanian dignitaries, and the visit of Monday, although it occurred the very day when Rus announced his resignation, was by no means different from those of the past. The American ambassador closely monitored the political events of these months and repeatedly appealed to observing the independence of Romanian justice and the rule of law.
