Over August 10 – September 14 the metallurgical plant ArcelorMittal Hunedoara shall start a procedure of collective layoffs, the employees who want to leave being expected to be paid between 5 and 18 severance salaries, depending on their seniority and an amount to be paid upon departure, as Petru Vaidous, leader of Siderurgistul Union, said yesterday, cited by Mediafax. “The lists with the staff who want to leave on voluntary basis shall be analyzed together with the plant management who decided whether they allow or not the departure of an employee from a certain position. The management reserves the right to approve or reject the layoff requests without motivating their decision. One may leave from over-staffed sectors but there will be restrictions for those departments that under-staffed,” said Vaidos. As he said, the staff laid off shall receive, depending on seniority, between 5 to 18 severance salaries and an amount ranging from RON 15000 to RON 19000 to be paid when leaving the plant. “The union does not agree these departures but neither can we forbid people to take a personal decision. It is a scheme of voluntary layoffs upon the demand of the employee. This is termination of jobs, something that Siderurgistul Union has notified state institutions upon,” Vaidos said. The union leader maintains that the representatives of ArcelorMittal Hunedoara did not make a decision on the number of persons who should leave the plant.
