Thousands of pilgrims flocked to monasteries to celebrate St Mary

More than 2.2 million Romanians, most of them women, celebrated their name day on Saint Mary (August 15 – editor note. As every year, thousands of pilgrims from the country and from abroad participated in religious services organized in churches all through the country for the celebration of Lord Mother Assumption. People cope with the heat during the day and the low temperatures during the night in order to attend the religious services organized on this occasion. Thus, during this year celebrations within the Saint Liturgy officiated at national marine Sanctuary in Cacica (Suceava County), services were officiated in Romanian, Hungarian, Polish and German languages, as well as the Greek – Catholic Liturgy. This event was attended by His Holiness Petru Gherghel, Bishop of Iasi, the Apostolic Nuncio Paolo Nicolo, who delivered a special message for pilgrims as well as His Holiness Anton Cosa, Bishop of Chisinau, along with a large number of priests from the country and from abroad. Nearly 2,000 believers who came for pilgrimage from Alba, Cluj, Mures, Sibiu, Hunedoara and Arad counties, attended on Wednesday the service officiated at Ramet Church in Alba county, one of the oldest religious establishments in Transylvania.  Other 1000 persons attended the religious service organized on this occasion at Reunification Cathedral from Alba Iulia.A large number of pilgrims arrived from the whole country (more than 5,000) attended at Curtea de Arges Monastery, the religious service officiated for the church name by a group of priests led by Archbishop of Arges and Muscel, His Holiness Calinic. After the service, the pilgrims bowed before the relics of Saint Martyr Filofteia, who were placed inside the church. In order to prevent unwanted incidents from happening, more than one hundred police officers and gendarmes secured guard.In spite of the organizational measures taken by authorities, police officers identified, during the celebration of Lord Mother Assumption, over 1,000 infringements, 50 persons being held and they gave almost 23,000 fines amounting to RON 4.6 M, based on a press release from Romanian Police cited by Mediafax.
