The joint selection committee of the Hungary-Romania Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 has approved the financing of 53 new projects worth a total of EUR 68.4 M, the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) announced on Friday in a press release. Of the 53 projects selected 26 have a total value of approximately EUR 36 M and are part of priority axis 1, seeking to develop cross-border infrastructure (mainly the construction or reconstruction of roads and bicycle lanes that lead to or cross over the border, the protection of common natural values, water and waste management). The other 27 projects have a total value of EUR 32 M and are part of priority axis 2, seeking to strengthen cooperation in various domains of activity, such as the joint development of business infrastructure, tourism infrastructure, health and research infrastructure. The selection committee’s meeting took place in Timisoara on July 19 and was attended by representatives of relevant regional and national institutions from Romania and Hungary. The Hungary-Romania Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 seeks to sustainably develop the cross-border region. Approximately 400 projects have been contracted through the programme, benefitting from European funds of approximately EUR 150 M.
