Stolojan: Basescu, a hope for better regarding Romania’s credibility

PDL MEP Theodor Stolojan said yesterday that he was expecting after today session of the Parliament that Traian Basescu returns to Presidency since he is “the hope for better regarding Romania’s credibility”. He said that he did not even want to think at the fact that the Parliament would not accept the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC) regarding the invalidation of the referendum on July 29. On the other side, Stolojan said that Basescu would have to cohabitate with PM Victor Ponta and PNL Leader Crin Antonescu.  (…) “They will have to cohabitate. (…) They do not have to be friends, they need to collaborate at institutional level,” Stolojan maintained, cited by Mediafax. At the end of last week, the Euro MP said for RFI that once returned at Cotroceni, the President shall take over his attributions and he will try “to repair to the extent this can be done what was damaged” in relation to Romania’s creditability at external level, he considering that his resignation would be “the last cherry” on “a bitter pie”.
“I do not think that a person who enjoys credibility, the only top politician currently in the country leadership, who enjoys the credibility of foreign partners (Basescu – editor note) would resign. This would probably be the last cherry on the bitter pie of the loss of credibility for Romania,” Stolojan indicated.
