The Romanian Company of Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR) continues to make outstanding payments to the Americans of Bechtel, although the works to the only motorway segment they are still building, Suplacu de Barcau-Bors, advanced at an extremely slow pace: just 0.5 pc, according to calculations presented by zf.ro. In other words, during the first six months of the year, Bechtel built approximately 300 meters of motorway. One may say that they have justifications for every RON they spent, but they had no results. In H1 2012, Bechtel received from the motorway company approximately RON 325.7 M (EUR 75.7 M), according to the analysis made by ZF based on data released by CNADNR. This is the largest sum paid by the institution to a contractor in the first half of the year.Although it was renegotiated last year, the construction contract of the Transilvania motorway by the Americans of Bechtel has not been made public so far, as the US company opposes the idea of revealing the clauses of the contract. According to existing information, Bechtel received so far from the Romanian state about EUR 1.3-1.4 M and only built 52 of the 415 km of the Transilvania motorway, and now it works on 60 more km. The contract with Bechtel, signed in 2003, amounts to approximately EUR 2.2 bln. The company has not gived anyreaction in this respect.spedition umb and astaldi, the next best paid companies after the americansIn a top of best paid motorway construction companies in Romania, the next best paid company after Bechtel was Bacau-based Spedition UMB, controlled by Dorinel Umbrarescu, who received some RON 266.3 M (EUR 60.5 M) in H1 for repairs to several national roads and to the Moara Vlasiei-Ploiesti and Timisoara-Lugoj motorways.
