Dumitru Mirea, Liviu Catalin Bondoc and Gheorghita Burcu are accused of electoral fraud.
The presidents of three voting sections of Drobeta Turnu Severin, Orsova and Garla Mare were charged by the prosecutors of the High Court of Cassation and Justice with fraud during the referendum, as the highest number of electoral incidents was registered in Mehedinti.Dumitru Mirea, the president of the voting section of Garla Mare, on 29 July 2012 and prior to that date prepared a supplementary list of voters, with fake entries, in which he wrote voters several times, and used it to illegally cast an additional number of ballots.Liviu Catalin Bondoc, the president of a voting section of Drobeta Turnu Severin, signed a supplementary list containing fake mentions and used it to cast more ballots than the number of voters existing in his constituency. The evidence shows that the supplementary voters’ list of his section contains far too many voters than the actual residents of the three communes covered by his voting section, with a number of entries of the regular list being duplicated on the supplementary list.Gheorghita Burcu, the president of a voting section of Orsova, illegally drafted a page 11 of his supplementary electoral list, by copying all the entries present in page 3 of the list, in a different order, and forging the signatures. Then, he annulled the 15 ballots corresponding to page 11 by stamping them twice, thus validating the presence of the 15 extra voters. All this activity took place after the end of the voting process.“In the case known by media as <<frauds during the referendum,>> prosecutors of the Criminal Investigation Department of the High Court of Cassation and Justice continued the investigations of voting commission members in the Mehedinti County, suspected of committing the crime provided by art. 55 of Law 3/2000. In this context, the evidence gathered in this file so far proves the existence of several irregularities in this county, as follows: recording several voters with the same personal number code or the same name; failure to inscribe the personal number code in the case of some voters, invalid or inexistent personal number codes; failure to write the identification data as mentioned by the ID cards of voters,” reads a press release issued by the Public Ministry. The investigations launched on 20 August 2012 revealed that the percentage of cases in which irregularities were signalled is significant at some voting sections in the Mehedinti County. In this case, a criminal probe was launched against the three presidents of voting sections from the Mehedinti County.Several people questioned so far disputed the signatures attributed to them on the supplementary electoral lists.
