Palace of Parliament, significant profit for Romanian tourism

The Palace of Parliament is becoming one of the most profitable tourist attractions in Romania, generating revenues of over half a million Euros, informs. Last year the Palace of Parliament registered 141,000 visitors, 80 per cent of them foreigners. According to the data offered by the Lower Chamber’s General Secretariat, the institution registered over RON 2 M in revenues from tourism in 2011. Most of the visitors were Japanese, Americans and Spanish, but there were also visitors from Portugal, China and Israel. The representatives of tour operators claim that the tourists that arrive in Bucharest first want to see the Palace of Parliament. The number of visitors this year is not known, but is expected to surpass the one registered in 2011 because the number of tourists in Bucharest was 11 per cent higher in the first months of this year, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs. The Palace of Parliaments is 86 meters high and 92 meters deep, having 12 stories above ground. The Palace was built by a team of 700 architects and 20,000 workers. The Peles and Bran Castles, as well as the castle in Hunedoara, are also attractive sites for foreign tourists. Revenues from ticket sales at the Bran Castles totaled EUR 1.2 M last year, a fabulous sum for Romania and unequaled by any other tourism attraction in the country.
