Diaconescu: Basescu is trying to avoid being drawn in political disputes

Presidential aide Cristian Diaconescu stated  that although Traian Basescu “is the most important political target” the Head of State is trying to avoid being drawn in political disputes. At the same time, Diaconescu added that the Head of State would no longer resign in exchange for the Constitution being amended, as Basescu had proposed to USL. “I don’t think and I wouldn’t advise him to do that because, I repeat, the entire process that started on June 3 and the way in which the political went beyond the state institutions is unprecedented. This problem shows vulnerability, it has to be solved first and then we could possibly engage in exercises with a certain constitutional interest. So, in my opinion, the conditions that the president had in mind at the time he made this statement are no longer the same today considering what happened in Romania,” Diaconescu pointed out.
