PDL and PNL start preparations for general elections

The Democrat-Liberals decided , during their Permanent National Bureau (BPN) meeting, that the party’s branches should present, by September 20, the list of candidates for the general elections this autumn. In what concerns the creation of the Right Romania Alliance, PDL First Vice President Cezar Preda stated that the electoral alliance protocol with centre forces is close to being finalized and will be presented this week. On the other hand, Preda announced that PDL plans to file in Parliament a draft meant to modify Law 35/2008 on general elections, in the sense of instituting harsher punishments for electoral fraud. The draft law, authored by former Interior Minister Traian Igas, concerns the representatives within voting centres, Preda added. The Liberals are preparing for general elections too. PNL Spokesperson Mihai Voicu announced yesterday, after the Central Political Bureau (BPC) meeting, that PNL President Crin Antonescu, Economy Minister Daniel Chitoiu, PNL Vice President Relu Fenechiu, PNL MP Eugen Nicolaescu, former Business Environment Minister Lucian Isar and Administration Minister Radu Stroe will be part of the USL commission that will author the governing programme. At the same time, he stated that BPC has asked PNL’s parliamentary groups to talk with their counterparts within USL and then to start the parliamentary procedures needed for a series of necessary laws such as the defence industry law, a law that would allow pensions to be cumulated with salaries, a law on restoring army pensions to the values they had prior to being cut and a law on prevention within the health system. Also yesterday, the Liberals have asked their representatives within juridical commissions to find a legal formula that would allow for interaction between the Parliament and the Public Ministry’s representatives. On the other hand, Voicu pointed out that PNL’s leadership can offer derogations, “in the possible presence of uncontestable personalities,” for those general elections candidates who obtained their party membership less than two years ago.
