Second-hand car market, up 147 pc this summer

The number of used cars registered for the first time in Romania advanced by an impressive 147 pc during the three months of summer 2012, to 46,217 units, from 18,687 units registered in the same interval of last year, according to an analysis conducted by, informs a press release. Over the same interval, the number of re-registrations dropped by 10 pc to 89,547 units, from 99,819 in 2011, according to figures released by the Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Department (DRPCIV).This summer too, Volkswagen topped the second-hand market, with 11,261 units registered for the first time in Romania this summer, almost three times more than a year ago, followed by Opel with 9,124 units and Ford with 5,883 vehicles. The next positions of a Top 5 are held by Audi (2,898) and BMW (2,562).Also, the registration of new automobiles suffered a 29 pc decline to 18,375 units this summer. Dacia is in pole position, with 4,584 new units, which is still 40 pc less than last year, while Volkswagen registered 2,191 automobiles and Skoda 1,826. Next come Renault with 1,355 and Ford with 1,160 according to DRPCIV.
