Adrian Nastase’s appeal postponed for November 5

The Supreme Court’s five-judge panel postponed yesterday, for November 5, the appeal that Adrian Nastase filed against the two-year sentence he received in the “Quality Trophy” case. The decision was taken because the court’s explanation of its ruling was not present in the file. Irina Paula Jianu, former general inspector within the State Inspectorate in Constructions, sentenced to six years in jail in the same case, also filed an appeal. The panel of judges postponed her appeal for November 5 too. Ion Cazacu, one of the former premier’s lawyers, stated on Monday that the panel of judges that made the final ruling in the “Quality Trophy” case has to present the reason for it since over three months have elapsed since. The lawyer stated that this violates his client’s right to defence, reminding that the legal period in which Nastase’s lawyers can file notes and complaints at the European Court of Human Right expires in December 2012.
