USL to launch candidates on October 17

PM Ponta announced no reshuffle is in sight and that the government will have a different structure after the general elections. Raed Arafat will not be part of the new government, the Premier added.

PSD President and Prime Minister Victor Ponta stated on Tuesday evening, after the meeting the USL leadership had, that USL will launch all of its 450 candidates for the general elections on October 17 in Bucharest. The event will coincide with the EPP Congress that will take place in Bucharest on October 17-18. Likewise, the Premier also announced that a government with a different structure will be formed after the general elections, some of the current ministers set to retain their membership. “A reshuffle is not necessary. Not until December 9. There’s a bit of time left and after December 9 we will form a government with a different structure in which some of the current ministers will remain and others won’t,” Ponta stated, being quoted by Mediafax. He pointed out that the information according to which PSD and PNL will switch ministries is false. The Premier reiterated yesterday that no reshuffle will take place prior to December 9: “Please stop believing press rumors… I plan to ensure the stability of this team until December 9, except for exceptional and unforeseen cases such as the one seen at the Health Ministry. If I have reproaches and changes to make I won’t inform you on TV and please stop falling for these traps,” Ponta told the ministers during yesterday’s government meeting.Referring to the Health Ministry situation, the Premier pointed out that undersecretary of state Raed Arafat, who will take over the Health Minister’s prerogatives following Vasile Cepoi’s resignation, has already informed him that he does not want to be Health Minister in the government formed after the elections. Ponta added that in this case a new minister will be nominated, one that will have a clear mandate and strategy. The Premier added that USL did not talk about the Health Ministry issue, about the appointment of a new minister or about a switch, pointing out that he has no other proposal for the office of Health Minister before the elections. The Presidency announced yesterday that Premier Victor Ponta was appointed interim Health Minister through a decree signed by President Traian Basescu.Referring to the elections, PM Ponta avoided pointing out whether independent Senator Mircea Geoana will run in his college in Dabuleni, pointing out that he has had no new discussion with him and it would be very good if the former PSD leader runs for USL. Asked by journalists if he can state whether Geoana will run in the same college in Dabuleni, Ponta answered: “No, the only thing I can tell you is that I believe it would be very good if he runs for USL.” “Until now I haven’t had a new discussion with him but it’s very good for him to run for USL,” Ponta said.In what concerns PP-DD President Dan Diaconescu’s intention to run for an office of Senator in Gorj, the Premier’s college, Ponta stated that people in Gorj are big fans of music and art, not of circus. “In what concerns me, the people of Targu Jiu supported me ever since I was first elected MP in 2004 and I’m very grateful to them. Obviously I’ll run in the same college this year and probably in 2016 too. I will never change my college because the people of Targu Jiu were by my side when I had no public office and very few of them believed I will ever end up being Premier or party president. Apart from that, you should know that the people in Gorj are big fans of music and art, not of circus.”
