EC official: Romania is ready to be ‘discharged from hospital’

Romania is in the situation of a patient “ready to be discharged from hospital,” but needs to do much effort to recover completely, according to EU official Joost Kuhlmann, which warned that one must avoid the errors of the past and the unsustainable increase of wages and pensions, Mediafax reports. “The biggest challenge for Romania is to revitalise its economy. Several steps have been made, but many more are necessary before achieving it,” Joost Kuhlmann, the chief of the department for Finland, Bulgaria and Romania of the General Directorate for Economy and Finance of the European Commission added.On the same occasion, the Italian business association presented its activity report at one year and a half since it was founded, along with its plans for the future. Attending the event, the president of Confindustria Balcani, Luigi Salvadori emphasised the very important role which the Italian associative system can play in improving the economic and commercial ties and integrating the markets of Balkan countries and Italy. Until the end of the year, Confindustria will have branches all the 9 Balkan countries, along with opening a branch in Albania in the near future, the official added.
