Over 760 babies were abandoned at maternity hospitals and other medical units during the first half of the year, of which 656 were discharged, but only 264 of them could be reintegrated in their families, the Child Protection Department of the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection announced.The number of babies abandoned at maternity hospitals and other medical units during January-June 2012 reached 768. Of these, 469 were abandoned at maternity hospitals, 218 in hospital sections dedicated to children, and 81 in other sections.Out of the 656 babies discharged from hospital, 264 returned to their families, 5 were placed with extended families, 14 with families and other foster parents, 12 in care centers and 42 are in other situations.
