Italian Parliamentary delegation received by Mona Pivniceru

Justice Minister Mona Pivniceru yesterday received the visit of a parliamentary delegation of the Schengen Committee, Europol and Migration of the Italian Parliament, led by Margherita Boniver. Italy’s ambassador to Bucharest, His Excellency Mario Cospito, too, attended the meeting. According to press release by the Justice Ministry, talks focused on the stage of judicial system reform in Romania, amid the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification (MCV). “The Romanian minister reiterated that there is no connection between fulfilling MCV conditionalities and accession to the Schengen Area, as there is no technical or legal ground whatsoever in linking the tw issues, as they answer to different conditionalities, those related to the Schengen Area being fully fulfilled by the Romanian state,” the communiqué reads.  In her turn, Margherita Boniver reaffirmed the Legislative in Rome’s commitment to Romania’s and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area and praised Romanian authorities’ efforts in the justice reform area  lately.
