President Basescu on Turkmenistan visit

President Traian Basescu arrivedin Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, where he is paying a two-day official visit, at the invitation of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The two heads of state held tete-a-tete talks on Thursday afternoon at the Presidential Palace in Ashgabat, in the presence of the two delegations. Romania’s delegation includes Bogdan Aurescu, secretary of state within the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), Rodina Traicu, secretary of state within the Economy Ministry, Lucian Iliescu, secretary of state within the Transportation Ministry, Neculai Plaiasu, head of the National Office for the Prevention of Money Laundering, as well as Presidential aides Cristian Diaconescu, Iulian Fota, Iulian Chifu and Bogdan Dragoi, and Presidential spokesperson Bogdan Oprea.Yesterday afternoon Basescu and Berdimuhamedow were scheduled to sign an action plan on the implementation of the “Romanian President’s and Turkmen President’s Joint Statement” signed in Ashgabat on July 22, 2009. Other bilateral documents were expected to be signed in their presence too: an action plan for 2013-2014 between the Romanian and Turkmen Foreign Ministries, an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the transportation domain, as well as a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the exchange of information concerning money laundering and the financing of terrorism, memorandum signed between the Romanian National Office for the Prevention of Money Laundering and the Turkmen Finance Ministry’s counterpart department. During his meeting with President Berdimuhamedow, President Traian Basescu stated that Romanian companies Romelectro and SIVECO are interested in entering the Turkmen market’s energy constructions and IT sectors.
