The national currency’s exchange rate climbed slightly halfway through the trading day, so that the National Bank of Romania (BNR) announced a reference exchange rate that grew by RON 0.0057 to RON 4.5698/EUR, the highest level in the last 9 weeks. A higher exchange rate was posted on August 6 (RON 4.5740/EUR). In the previous trading session the exchange rate stood at RON 4.5641/EUR. The RON appreciated slightly against the USD, the reference rate dropping by RON 0.004 to RON 3.5463/USD. At the same time, the exchange rate for the Swiss Franc grew by RON 0.0131 to RON 3.7840/CHF. The drop in the ownership of state bonds will continue to put pressure on the RON and the forecast is that the national currency will depreciate beyond RON 4.60/EUR in the following weeks, a ING Bank report quoted by realitatea.net shows.
