The National Trade Union Block (BNS), through its president Dumitru Costin, yesterday proposed the increase of the minimum salary per economy to RON 1,000 and the reduction by 4 percent points of the social security contributions paid by employer, saying that, by doing so, Romania would enact one of the assumed conditions. According to Costin, quoted by Mediafax, such measures would not have negative effects for the state budget. On the other hand, during protests staged at country scale on October 2-4, the National Trade Union Confederation ‘Cartel Alfa’ demanded the increase of the minimum salary to RON 850 starting January 1st 2013. The president of ‘Cartel Alfa,’ Bogdan Hossu said yesterday that a minimum salary of RON 850 would imply an increase by approximately 20 pc, “acceptable in the present conditions.” According to the trade union leader, a predictable and sustainable increase is needed.
