Tereos, France’s largest sugar manufacturers and the fourth worldwide, took over Zaharul Ludus factory, Mures Co., from the Sucreries du Marquenterre Group. The plant will service industrial customers from Eastern Europe, where the French group estimates the demand for sugar will grow significantly in the coming years. The Ludus-based plant produces 34,000 tons of sugar a year and is supplied by 500 farmers whose sugar beet cultures stretch over a total of 5,000 hectares, according to the Tereos press release Tuesday. The transaction awaits authorization from the Competition Council.
