Kovesi gives up race for DNA chief

Codruta Kovesi on Thursday informed the Ministry of Justice (MJ) that she will not be able to attend the interview for the office of DNA chief, because on October 16 she took over the position of High Representative with the Romanian Mission in Brussels, in charge with the reform of Justice.MJ informed Tuesday that all the candidates for the offices of general prosecutor of Romania and chief of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) submitted their management projects and will sustain interviews on October 23-25.On October 5, MJ made public a list of candidates for chief prosecutor and DNA chief, with 11 names, including Codruta Kovesi, Tiberiu Nitu and Claudiu Dumitrescu.Codruta Kovesi has been delegated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) which, in turn, admitted the request of MJ to appoint her High representative of MJ for the relation with the European Commission on matters related to complying with the conditions set by the Mechanism of Cooperation and Verification for the reform of the judiciary system and the fight against corruption, with the Romanian Permanent Representative Office to the European Union.On October 16, Kovesi began her mandate in Brussels.
