BNR lends RON 5 bln to 7 banks, in repo auction

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) granted loans worth RON 5 bln (EUR 1.1 bln) to 7 banks in a repo operation held Monday, in which the sums bid by banks amounted to RON 12.73 bln. Thus, when BNR announces a cap, banks bid high values, in order to make sure that they receive as much as possible out of the sums they target. The Central Bank on Monday capped at RON 5 bln the sum to be made available to banks via repo operations, after limiting to RON 6 bln the financing during the last two weeks. In its turn, the Ministry of Public Finance on Monday borrowed EUR 421.5 M on the local market, by selling state bonds in foreign currency, which will mature in July 2015 – a sum almost three times higher than the indicative value, at an average annual yield of 3.76 pc.
