The Competition Council (CC) was notified and started a probe on the market of the sale of media services (consultancy and strategy, planning, development and purchase), the institution announces in a press release. The probe refers to a possible arrangement between the companies active in this market, in view of eliminating competitors in the tenders for awarding the advertising accounts of Romania-based clients (multinationals). According to HotNews.ro, the probe is related to ‘Clubul de Media,’ and entity recently founded by 10 media agencies operating in Romania, and to a Guide that defines the rules for organising a tender and for selecting the winners. The media firms that formed the ‘Clubul de Media’ organisation are Brand Programming Network and Initiative (part of the Lowe group), MEC Romania, MediaCom, Mindshare, Optimedia, Starcom MediaVest Group, United Media, Universal McCann, Zenith Romania. The Club aims at becoming “the main representative organisation dedicated to the media industry.”CC president Bogdan Chiritoiu said that the notification was submitted approximately three weeks ago by an actor of the media market and, last week, CC checked 13 locations of economic agents active in the media market. The average duration of a probe is around two years, with the shortest investigations taking one year.
