Romanians’ monthly savings grow to EUR 116

The average sum that the urban population saves on a monthly basis grew by 30 per cent to EUR 116 compared to 2011, while the savings frequency grew from 11 to 17 per cent, a survey authored by IRSOP in August-September and presented by the BCR Banca pentru Locuinte (BpL) shows, HotNews.ro informs. At the same time, occasional savings (once every 2-3 months) had a share of 13 per cent in 2010, reaching 24 per cent this year. Approximately 2.62 million persons (41 per cent of respondents) save frequently or occasionally, a change in mentality being observed according to the aforementioned source. The IRSOP poll was conducted in urban areas on the 20-65 age group that represents 6.9 million persons. The poll has a margin of error of plus/minus 2.8 per cent. According to the poll, approximately 1.1 million Romanians are interested in becoming clients of the savings-loans system in the next 12 months. Of those, the achievable projection stands at 264,000 clients on the loans side, with the average sum needed for home improvement projects standing at EUR 14,237.
