Hidroelectrica, now in insolvency, put on sale on the energy market OPCOM (the Romanian Electricity Market Operator) a quantity of 1.7 TWh of electricity, worth EUR 82 M, which is the largest offer of an energy producer during the last two years, Mediafax reports. The state-run company formed 35 electricity packages, which it will put on auction on October 31 and November 1, 2 and 5, OPCOM informs. The quantity of 1.7 TWh accounts for 14 pc of Hidroelectrica’s estimated output for this year, approximately 12 TWh. This amount of energy could secure a significant part of the power needs of some big consumers, like Alro Slatina or ArcelorMittal Galati. In December 2010, Hidroelectrica sold 1.75 TWh to ArcelorMittal Galati, at a price of EUR 53.2 M. The steel mill secured its energy needs for 2010 similarly, by purchasing energy in December 2009, also from Hidroelectrica, via OPCOM.
