Parliament rejects simple motion on budget

The simple motion named ‘The USL government – the engine brake of the budget,’ initiated by the Parliament group of PDL, was rejected yesterday by the plenum of the Chamber of Deputies with 130 votes to 43, and 15 abstentions. The session was also attended by Finance Minister Florin Georgescu, who said that Romania will end year 2012 with a budget deficit of 2.2 pc, within the limits agreed with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the European Commission, as the figure will remain unchanged in the budget rectification. The minister also explained that the IMF does not negotiate with the states where electoral campaigns are taking place. “The IMF negotiates with a legitimate democratic government, subsequently. We will discuss the figures for economic growth, inflation rate for next year, budget deficit, public debt. This does not mean that we are able to submit the budget on December 1-2. These negotiations take enough time and our foreign partners usually do not negotiate during the electoral campaign. Thus, we rule out the possibility of sending a budget in Parliament, because – in legal and procedural terms – we do not have support elements,” Florin Georgescu explained. Georgescu thus answered, in the plenum of the Chamber of Deputies, the request listed by PDL in the simple motion on budget issues, about sending the draft 2013 budget in Parliament before elections.
