DSP Galati chief  Valentin Boldea, as well as the headquarters of DSP Galati. The two are involved in a EUR 450,000 fraud and tax evasion case.

Directorate for Investigated Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors are investigating five persons who are charged with setting up an organized crime group specializing in fraud and tax evasion. The prosecutors conducted seven house searches yesterday and also searched the headquarters of the Public Health Directorate (DSP) in Galati. According to the investigators, defendants Mihail Boldea (photo) and Valentin Boldea set up an organized crime group that was joined by Mircea Bivol, George Hristu, Andrei Madalin Petrea and Eugen Rosu, in order to obtain substantial financial benefits by artificially hiking the costs of public procurements and by dodging taxes. George Hristu is a shareholder of Agrigal Fruct, a company whose majority shareholder was Mihail Boldea, while Mircea Bivol was the chief of the MP office that Boldea had in Galati. The members of the crime group are suspected of using eight companies in order to register fictitious commercial operations with companies undergoing liquidation or with “ghost” companies, operations whose purpose was to diminish the value of taxes owed. At the same time, the members of the group led state institutions astray when it came to closing contracts whose purpose was the rehabilitation of schools and hospitals in Galati. The Education Ministry, the Environment Ministry and the Health Ministry were among the aforementioned institutions. The damages caused to the state budget were estimated at a total of EUR 450,000. The defendants will be heard at DIICOT Galati and legal measures will be taken in relation to the body of evidence. Valentin Boldea was taken to DIICOT Galati yesterday. According to the statement of assets filed in June 2012, Valentin Boldea owns a 55-square-meter apartment in Galati and had incomes of RON 60,000 in the last fiscal year.
