Three processions in the Capital on St. Dumitru’s Day

The Saint Dimitrie the New was celebrated by three processions in Bucharest, which concluded with the holy relics of Bucharest’s Patron Saint and of the Holy Emperor and Empress Constantin and Elena and of the Holy Hierarch Nectarie of Eghina were brought for worship at the Patriarchal Cathedral. The events celebrating Saint Dimitrie the New will carry on in the Capital until Tuesday, Oct 30. Over 200 gendarmes will provide the security at the Cathedral Oct 24-30. In its turn, the Archdiocese of Tomis announced that the coffin containing the relics of several saints was find in the steeple of a church in the Constanta municipality. They had been donated terrific by a hermitage on Mt. Athos and were most likely hidden from communists more than a half a century ago. Near the coffin, there is a relic certifying document written in Greek, issued by the donor – the abbot of the Vatopedin “Great Martyr Saint Dimitrie” Heritage on Mt. Athos. The document attests the authenticity of the relics and the date on which the donation was made to the Constanta Church, April 18, 1936. The document shows that the coffin contains the relics of the saint Constantin the Great, Iacov Iviritul, Apostle Filimon, New Martyr Saint Teodor, Saint Modest, St Varvara, the Silverless Saints, St Trifon, St Teoctista and of an anonymous saint. The coffin with relics will be on display for worshiping by the faithful at the “Saint Dumitru” Church starting out this evening.
