“Romania – Turkey relation, strengthened by a remarkable economic cooperation”

H.E. Mr. Victor Ponta, Prime Minister of Romania:

“It is with great honor and satisfaction that on the occasion of the 89th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, I address my warmest congratulations and best wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to the Turkish people!Turkey is a Strategic Partner for Romania and our relations have increased and developed constantly, based on our common values and interests.  We have a dynamic cooperation and a consistent bilateral dialogue, at all levels and in all sectors, and this creates the basis of our excellent relations. In order to further enhance our cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Partnership, convened in 2011, our Ministers of Foreign Affairs will soon sign an Action Plan that contains concrete projects of cooperation that will ensure the practical dimension of our strategic cooperation. Our bilateral relation is strengthened by a remarkable economic cooperation, with a great potential to be developed even more in the future. Turkey is Romania’s overall fifth economic partner, and the first economic partner outside the EU and within the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization. At the end of August 2012, our bilateral trade reached 2.9 billion euro.  Our common target is to reach 10 billion dollars in the next years.I would like to take this opportunity to welcome and further support the presence of the dynamic Turkish business community in Romania and to also to encourage the Romanian business people to take advantage of the opportunities for investment and trade in Turkey.

This year we started the implementation of visa facilitations for Turkish business people travelling to Romania. We are confident that this opens new perspectives and opportunities.Today, more than 12,820 companies with Turkish capital are registered with an invested capital of 415 million euro, placing Turkey in 16th place based on invested capital and in third place according to the number of companies.Romania is a strong and constant supporter of Turkey’s accession to the EU and encourages Turkey and the Turkish people in this complex and challenging process. Another important dimension of our cooperation focuses on the regional and international fields.  As partners and allies, we share common views and concerns related to the regional prosperity and global security and stability.  In our capacity as NATO members, we are actively committed to ensuring a peaceful future and sustained development and prosperity worldwide. We attach particular importance to our cooperation in the regional formats, such as the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.  Cooperation in the wider Black Sea region is another one of our priorities. We maintain a fruitful dialogue in order to contribute to the prosperity and stability of this region.  At the same time, we coordinate our efforts to enhance development in Western Balkans.Ensuring peace, security and stability in the wider Black Sea region and the Middle East represents a priority for both Romania and Turkey. On this important occasion, I would also like to address my congratulations to the Turkish community living in Romania!  The Turkish community here and the Romanian community in Turkey represent the most durable bridges of cooperation and mutual understanding between the Romanian and the Turkish peoples, and their respective cultures, traditions and languages.

Happy National Day!”
