European Parliament (EP) President Martin Schulz will arrive in Romania this week and will visit, along with Premier Victor Ponta, the water treatment plant in Targu Jiu, not considering this involvement in the elections campaign. The statement was made by Marcin Grajewski, spokesperson of the EP President, in response to a letter sent by Theodor Stolojan, the leader of PDL MEPs. In the letter Stolojan expressed his concern that the EP President’s visit to Targu Jiu could be interpreted as an ‘open involvement in the elections campaign’. According to Grajewski, Schulz agreed with Stolojan that the timetable of the visit should include a meeting with PDL leaders on October 31. According to the EP website, Schulz will arrive in Bucharest tomorrow and will meet Premier Ponta at the government’s headquarters. The two will then hold a joint press conference. On Wednesday, October 31, Schulz will deliver a speech in Parliament and will then meet President Traian Basescu, Lower Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea, Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean and European Affairs Minister Leonard Orban, and will give a speech at the Central University Library.
