A 12 metre high billboard 12 with the name ‘SIC-Terra Siculorum’ (Szekler Land) was installed yesterday by UDMR officials in front of the Covasna County Prefect’s Office, during an event attended by the president of UDMR Covasna, Tamas Sandor and the leader of the Sfantu Gheorghe party branch, mayor Antal Arpad. The board will stay in its current location until Christmas, based on the approval obtained by UDMR Covasna from the Sfantu Gheorghe Municipality. According to Tamas Sandor, the action is directed against the decisions and behaviour of the Covasna County prefect, Codrin Munteanu. “The prefect did not bring to the county a nail, so far, even, let alone funds for the local and public administrations throughout the county; on the contrary, he staged a long series of attacks against the symbols and sentiments of the Szeklers that inhabit the county,” the president of UDMR Covasna said, quoted by Mediafax. He gave as example the prefect’s initiative to attack the decisions regarding the names of several cultural institutions, the signs installed at the entrance of localities, bearing the message ‘Isten hozta’ (‘God brought you!’). In a separate move, Tamas Sandor announced that the Union will organise Thursday a meeting “in defense of the Szekler flag,” expected to be attended by thousands of ethnic Hungarians living in Covasna.
