Tarom’s Administrative Council (CA) has appointed former president of Luxair (Luxembourg’s flag carrier) Christian Edouard Heinzmann general manager, Mediafax informs. Heinzmann, a Belgian with over 25 years of experience in the airline industry, will start his four-year term as Tarom CEO and accountable manager on November 19. “One of the main criteria used in selecting Heinzmann was his experience in drafting and successfully implementing a restructuring strategy in a national airline company (Luxair – editor’s note),” CA Chairman Dan Pascariu stated in a communiqué. At the same time, Tarom’s CA appointed Michael Moriaty as deputy general manager and CFO. Moriaty is a British citizen with over 33 years of experience in financial management in the airline industry in Great Britain, US, Japan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Columbia. He will start his one-year term on November 12.Dan Pascariu added that the two were appointed because currently in Romania there are no persons with relevant experience for the stage in which the airline company is and that would assume the mission of transforming the company into an efficient and profitable company capable of financing itself. We remind our readers that Heinrich Vystoupil recently gave up the position and was dismissed from the CA too. Vystoupil, former head of Austrian Airlines’ representation in Romania and Moldova, had been appointed general manager on October 17.
