Artistic Cocktail and extreme rarities at Artmark

Art collectors are invited to six original theme auctions, November 13-15.

Salvador Dali, Martin Luther, Queen Maria, Playboy, Mircea Cantor, Cabala and the Masonry don’t appear to have much in common. However, when we are talking auctions organized by the Artmark Auction House, everything is possible. Art collectors are invited to an “artistic cocktail and extreme rarities”, November 13-15, starting with postmodernism, and on to eroticism and the occult, up to Art Deco, rare books and traditionalism, according to an Artmark press release. The event series kicks off with the Postmodernism and Contemporary Art Auction, at Athenee Palace Hilton, on the evening of November 13., which brings to the spotlight top names of recent Romanian art: Corneliu Baba, Constantin Piliuta, Dan Perjovschi, Mircea Cantor, Alexandru Ciucurencu and many more. Ciucurencu is also present in the auction with “Still Life with Book and Brushes”, (estimated value 10,000 – 18,000 from the Calmanovici collection, Sweden. Mircea Cantor, the most representative artist on the French young art scene, is present with photography installation “The landscape is changing”, estimated at 6,000 – 8,000 Euro. The evening of Nov 13 will continue with the „Erotica” Auction, an opportunity for displaying some daring and explicit works including the Playboy  15th anniversary edition, January 1969 (estimated value – 75 – 150 Euro), and two erotic scenes signed by Marcel Iancu, Estimated price 800 – 1,500 Euro each. On Nov 14, on display items from the area of magic and esoteric sciences. Among the central items on sale, Masonic swords, one ritual, the other, ceremonial, estimated value 500 – 1,000 Euro each, a Cabala pocket notebook made in New York, 1922 (estimated value 60 – 120 Euro), and a copy from the Vatican Secret Archive of the Trial against the Order of Knights Templar  (estimated value 5,000 – 10,000 Euro). The second part of the evening will be dedicated to lovers of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Cesianu-Racovita Palace will host a sophisticated auction where collectors can acquire jewellery and unique pieces of furniture. Among the most vied for items an item designed by Queen Maria herself, “Golden, sculptured, correspondence table” Romanian Art Nouveau style, from the Costa-Foru Family collection (estimated value 2,000 – 4,000 Euro) and a superb Art Deco 2 ct diamond ring made in 1920 (estimated value 20,000 – 30,000 Euro).On the last evening of the auction hosted by Athenee Palace Hilton, collectors will have the opportunity to get some extreme rarities Part of the Graphics, Manuscripts and Collction Books Auction, volume 1 of the Complete Works of Reformist Pastor Martin Luther, Tomus Primus Omnium Operum, from 1550 (estimated value: 2,500 – 5,000 Euro) and the 1947 edition of Michel de Montaigne’s essays, with illustrations by Salvador Dali and Dali’s holographic signature (estimated value 1,000 – 2,000 Euro). The string of events wraps up strongly with the “Traditional Values” Auction, where bidders can vie for folkloric works such as the expressive “A Peasant’s Portrait (Matei Rudaru)” by Nicolae Grigorescu (estimated value 15,000 – 25,000 Euro), the bucolic “Shepherd with sheep, at Vlaici”, by Nicolae Darascu, a version of which is found at the Brukenthal National Museum (estimated value 12,000 – 20,000 euro).
