Ex-Romanian President Ion Iliescu launched his new book ‘Fragments of life and lived history’ published by Litera International yesterday in Craiova. Iliescu notes in the Foreword that ‘this book is not a book of memories in a classic sense’, although he knows that many people who know him as well as many historians were waiting for one. ‘Maybe it is not its time yet. Maybe I am not ready for such an endeavour,’ Iliescu says, according to realitatea.net. He explains that his volume is an attempt to present the very dense history we have been living since December 1989. ‘It’s 22 years of condensed and much tensed history with convulsions, complicated issues and settlement of our political life, of the structuring of Romanian democracy. We have lived in a complicated context with respect to the economy of the country, people’s life, in an equally complicated international context, including these latest few years with the consequences of an economic crisis in a changing world,’ the ex-president also said.
