ANAT: Romania, no longer present in TUI catalogues

Romania is no longer present in the catalogues printed by tour operator TUI this fall, which is a negative signal, ANAT President Corina Martin said yesterday in a conference, adding that the negotiations were exclusively conducted by the German operator and MDRT. In 2009, MDRT signed a contract with TUI providing that the tour-operator would return to Romania as of 2010. On the bright side, Romania is present with eight hotels in the catalogues issued by Thomas Cook Neckermann for the German market and with six units in the catalogues for Polish market. MDRT officials avoided to make public the number of tourists brought by TUI on the Romanian seaside and only announced that TUI and another operator, i.e. ITS, jointly brought over 2,000 German tourists to the seaside in the summer of 2012. Sources with some Romanian travel agents however claim that TUI brought no more than several hundreds of tourists in the Romanian seaside resorts.

‘Japanese strike’ in hotels

The Tourism Employers’ Federation will ask the government to enforce the holiday tickets and the 9 pc VAT for restaurants, otherwise it will call for a Japanese strike in hotels and restaurants throughout the country, the president of the Federation, Mohammad Murad announced. He mentioned that the Romanian hotel industry did not increase its prices, but the sums paid to the state went up. Even in these conditions, the increase of the Romanian tourist industry is estimated at 10-12 pc for 2012 and the trend will be maintained in 2013 too, Murad added.

Romania’s Tourism Fair, November 15-18

Tour operators that will present their offers at Romania’s Tourism Fair at Romexpo, on November 15-18, will sell their holiday packages at prices lower by 5-15 per cent during the event. The offers mainly consist of winter holiday packages, but Easter holiday and even summer holiday packages can be bought too. The Fair spans 8,000 square meters and will host 200 exhibitors, 165 from Romania and 43 from abroad. 60 of the exhibitors are tourism agencies.
