Ahead of the Parliament’s vote, Alin Trasculescu resigns

Democrat-Liberal Deputy Alin Trasculescu announced his resignation at the start of yesterday’s Chamber of Deputies session to debate the Law Commission report giving the green light to his remand in custody. The Law Commission on Friday decided to give the go-ahead to Trasculescu’s remand, at the justice minister’s request. The Deputies with the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) after the group session yesterday morning, announced their decision to vote in favor of the remand request. Also yesterday, Social Democratic Party (PSD) President Victor Ponta announced that the decision reached by the Social Liberal Union (USL) joint parliamentary groups to vote the Law Commission’s proposal on Trasculescu’s remand.Alin Trasculescu, under investigation for influence peddling, instigation to uttering and money laundering , was taken into custody Nov 11 – Nov 12, around 6 a.m. he was released from the Bucharest Police detention compound once the 24-hour apprehension ordinance expired. On Nov 13, the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) called on the Chamber of Deputies, via the Justice ministry, to authorize the remand in custody of   Deputy Alin Trasculescu.
