POS Environment payment resumption decision to be announced in the coming days

The European Commission (EC) will reach in the next couple of days a decision on resuming payments under the 4.5bln euro Sectoral Operational Program (POS) Environment, EU Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn said at the meeting with Romanian Environment Minister Rovana Plumb, Mediafax reports. The meeting was an opportunity for the Romanian minister to emphasize the actions by the ministry’s SOP Environment managing authority towards payments being resumed to Romania and to assure the EU official that proceedings will continue being implemented. In his turn, Johannes Hahn hailed the progress made by Romania in putting SOP Environment into practice, from last June. The measures were also discussed needed to ensure better absorption, considering the implementation of the new environmental projects being in Romania’s interest. The European Commission has proposed a 10 pc forfeiting correction for all the public procurement contracts launched before Oct 1, 2011. Prime Minister Victor Ponta said recently that by accepting financial corrections and correction of irregularities in 2009-2011 period, in December it can be resumed refunds for POSDRU and for Regional Development and Environment programs.
