PSD Deputy Ion Stan, under investigation

Social-Democrat Deputy Ion Stan, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Commission on Romanian Intelligence Agency (SRI) Activities is investigated for influence peddling. According to a release by the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) he is banned from leaving the country for the next 30 days. Prosecutors say that, during May-June 2009, the Social-Democrat MP, as president of the Dambovita County branch of the PSD  demanded, and indirectly received from a businessman, to the benefit of the political grouping to which he is affiliated,  some 100,000 euro in electoral campaign products suggesting to him he could have an influence on some civil servants, mayors namely, of localities in  Dambovita County.  He appeared before the DNA prosecutors Friday, yet declined making any comment on the issue. The Deputy’s driver, Florin Sarca, too, is investigated for complicity to influence peddling.
