President Traian Basescu lashed again last evening, during a statement at Cotroceni Palace, against USL leaders and its campaign. Basescu called USL leaders as liars, counting several issues. “The USL suggests I can name whoever I want as PM after the elections. That’s a terrible lie. The premier can be any Romanian. General elections do not elect a prime minister, they are meant to elect the MPs. The president has the constitutional role to nominate the prime minister, in accordance with that person’s capacity to form a government and according to the national interest. It is needed a PM to have the majority in parliament, to get the parliament’s vote, irrespective who are the ones giving support,” Basescu said. He added the majority is made up in parliament. In this way the head of state suggests the future PM might get support from other parties than USL to form the government. It is the first time Traian Basescu admits this variant.Basescu continued by telling the USL leaders they are Bolshevik liars. He added nobody has called him from the EU to tell him to observe the general elections results.
